The sun was high over Sand Harbor State Park, casting a golden glow across the turquoise waters of Lake Tahoe. For early April, it felt like summer had arrived early — warm air, clear skies, and a steady stream of people marveling at the lake’s legendary beauty. I had come to capture the crystalline water and iconic granite boulders that rise from it like nature’s own sculpture garden, framed by snow-dusted peaks in the distance.



But I hadn’t anticipated the challenge. Every time I composed the perfect shot — someone wandered into frame. A couple sunbathing on a rock. A group of friends snapping selfies. A kid throwing stones into the water. I’d wait, finger hovering over the shutter, heart holding still, only to sigh and lower the camera again.



Still, I couldn’t blame them. The water sparkled like liquid sapphire, and the breeze carried the scent of fresh pine and sun-warmed granite.
