Farmhouse Wall Decor
The Texas Hill Country, with its rolling hills and vast stretches of open land, has always been a place of quiet discovery for me. On this particular day, I found myself wandering near Bandera, taking in the rustic charm of the region. The sky was a perfect shade of blue, the kind that seemed to stretch on forever, with only the occasional puff of clouds to break its expanse.
As I rounded a bend in the road, a sight stopped me in my tracks—a towering wooden windmill with bright yellow blades that glowed like the sun itself. Its weathered wooden frame contrasted beautifully with the crisp, clean sky, while the bright blades seemed almost alive as they caught the light. I couldn’t resist the pull of the scene.
Pulling over to the shoulder of the road, I grabbed my camera and began to frame the perfect shot. The windmill’s blades radiated out like a celestial halo, and I realized I could use the sun to enhance the effect. Carefully, I lined up my shot, moving just enough to position the sun directly behind the center of the blades. The result was a glowing, almost ethereal effect that gave the windmill a sense of importance, as if it were a guardian of the Hill Country itself.
As I was focusing and adjusting settings, a vehicle slowed and stopped nearby. My heart skipped a beat when I saw it was the local sheriff’s truck. He stepped out, wearing a weathered cowboy hat and aviator sunglasses, and casually walked toward me. For a split second, I wondered if I was about to have a problem. After all, I was technically on the shoulder of a public roadway, but these rural areas often had unwritten rules.
“What’re you up to out here?” he asked, his tone more curious than confrontational.
“I’m just photographing this windmill,” I replied, gesturing toward the towering structure. “It caught my eye, and the light is just perfect right now.”
He glanced at the windmill, then back at me. For a moment, he stood in silence, and I could feel the weight of his gaze. Then, to my relief, he smiled.
“Well, it’s a good one,” he said. “Just be careful. This road gets some fast traffic.”
